Since the food was inserted into the aquarium the life forms have began to multiply! There were many things found this week such as
Rotifers,
Peramiciums, Green Alga,
Gastrotriches, and many others. The
Rotifers mastax seems to pulsate like a rapid heart beat. The
mastax is a structure that is
peculiar to the digestive system of the
rotifer. There is no known comparable device in the animal kingdom, It has the appearance of a
bulbous swelling that is in between the pharynx proper and the
esophagus. The
mastax consists of a complicated
arrangements of muscles that activate a set of translucent jaws called
trophi which are used to seize, tear, grind and macerate the food that it takes in.
The bigger organisms that were found are populated around the food pellet waiting on the smaller ones to come in to eat and they will take advantage of that and eat them.
Plant A has shown signs of growth.
The
Gastrotriches that were found are worm like and brows on the substrate. They ingest bacteria,
algae, small protozoans, and organic detritus. They are long
cylinder muscle like organisms. The
Gastrotrich has sensory receptors on their head. The function of these sensory receptors is not known. The
Gastrotrich produces 1-5 eggs in its life time and the lifespan of the
Gastrotrich is 3-22 days. All are
parthenogentic females and males are unknown.
